What inspires you to make such good and beautiful plus amazing awesome OC’s???

(Btw I 💜 your OC it’s so cute and amazing!)

I tend to be very picky when designing characters. I look at a character and add details to them until I'm satisfied. I also look at characters I like and get inspired by them!!

Nawa Elyas is inspired by

- scribs design of Eliza Hamilton (hairstyle)

- Sangonomiya Kokomi from Genshin (dragon/fish features)

- Setsuna Haichi from Love Letter (Cancelled game from a while ago.) (hairstyle and bow hair tie)

- Rayla from the Dragon Prince (hair color for s3-s4)

- Maria Clara from Maria Clara at Ibarra (TV show in the Philippines!) (natural hair texture)

Lucky / Qi Mingxia is inspired by

- Ningguang from Genshin (forehead tassel)

- D.Va (Gremlin) from Overwatch (attitude)

- MK from Monkie Kid (colors and design)

- Nawa (hairstyle)

- Nezha and LBD (hair buns)

Cris / Qi Haoran is inspired by

- Nawa (My OC. If I'm doing fankids, I just tend to fuse their parents' designs!)

- Modern-fashion Scaramouche fanart (attitude and design)

I tend to reference from the characters listed above, and diverge and change the designs a bit so it wouldn't be too similar! Looking at Pinterest also helps.

am i the only one who finds it really fucking funny that back in the fandom days of overwatch people had dva be a dorito-munching-mtndew-slurping gremlin and the minute blizzard humored it in an emote everyone collectively dropped it and pretended nothing happened

I remember when the D.Va cinematic came out, this one gaming journalist wrote “pshaw, you’re trying to inject pathos into D.Va’s story??? When she has been a dorito gremlin for two years??? Absolutely ridiculous.” Like all the other cinematics hadn’t had very similar emotional stakes. It just really struck me that a. Yes blizzard absolutely had to get better and more consistent about lore drops and b. People were definitely getting attached to fanon over canon.

I do think the cinematic actually got people to take D. Va more seriously because it highlighted both how much D.Va and her team are putting on the line, and also how much the Korean government and media are under-reporting the threat of the Gwishin and how hard it impacts D.Va and her team. Like D.Va had to have a sea rescue and had a concussion and was likely in the ER for hours and was covered in bandages and casts and you see the newscaster talk about her like “yeah she’s fine, we’re so proud of her :)”

Like you kind of feel bad about reducing her to a joke about gross gamers, then.

Avatar

am i gonna be that guy and complain how marcille is mostly reduced to a joke by fandom a la uhh i can only think of d.va from overwatch when everyone made her like a gremlin (and ofc racist dimension to that too). ofc she is often the butt of a joke in the manga but c'mon pretty much everyone else is too. idk am i being dramatic. i think marcille has such an interesting moral complexity but she's just waaah falin hot and i'm so fucking awkward and horny... by fandom

This is when it really all fell apart for me. Because for a long time, D.Va was being treated as if she were white. All the memes surrounding her were about American gaming culture. All the controversy was about American issues, not Korean ones. All the cosplayers being propped up were white. I hate gremlin D.Va. I hate Dorito finger Monster energy drinking D.Va. I hate bad takes about her character with white American issues being attached to her. Even in her new design she has a boba sponsorship. The problem is that boba isn’t a Korean thing. It’s an Asian American thing. D.Va should have a coffee sponsorship and drink iced Americano.

Westerners took D.Va and turned her into a joke. This character, who sparked real life activism in Korea, was taken as a joke by Westerners. And the final straw was having my voice drowned out by white cosplayers who refused to listen to me when I talked about hanbok.

This is what it means when we say Representation Matters. Yes D.Va isn’t real. But she could be. People saw themselves in D.Va. They wanted to create a world where D.Va could be a real person. Real people were affected by this character. I’m one of them.

D.Va still holds a place in my heart. Despite everything white cosplayers have done, despite Blizzard burning to the ground, and despite Overwatch completely falling apart, I still have D.Va for myself. I just hope people will listen to me this time.

Out of all your favourite characters, who is the #1? What do they mean to you and have they had any impact on your art?

This was very decisive and was hard to choose one from many characters I adore! But honestly I feel like I am more close to D.va from Overwatch game.

I love her cheerful youthfulness, her jokes, the fact she’s a gamer girl with determination! I love her silly gremlin mode on too that people show her in fanarts which probably is my favorite because that is so me haha. I sometimes go buy Doritos chips myself and just enjoy gaming sessions with friends!

I love her color palette , especially the pink! I love that her suit is inspired from anime Evangelion outfits which is also the anime I made fanarts of! Loving her feminine features! I also like the representation of female character playing videogames and being the gamer because there is always toxic guys saying how “girls don’t play videogames, this and that blah blah” it’ s so annoying lol

I made a fanart of her playing videogames on her phone at night which is also what I sometimes do when I don’ t feel like falling asleep so I play games on my phone! And of course she has her favorite chips Doritos on side! And yes all these drawings are mine!

if you think of it, lucy ricardo is the world’s first female gremlin character

we wouldn’t even HAVE gremlin d.va and gremlin juri if we didn’t have lucy ricardo from i love lucy

Not the biggest fan of soldier as d.vas dad but after her cinematic I remember reading a really great fic where he recognizes her ptsd on a late night and they have a little bonding moment over being the face of a bright shiny optimistic military organization while also being wartime veterans in brutal conflicts.

It was good. Reading it felt like releasing a big breath of air after the years of Dva only being a gremlin or a sex object.

Yeah I mean I’m not saying it doesn’t have a lot of potential, but it is kind of depressing that we’ve seen Symmetra, Orisa, and Hanzo have noticeable character development between OW1 and 2 (even if Hanzo’s a bit more stubborn about it), but for Jack it’s like he’s stayed the same, if not gotten worse. Like you’d think Jack of all people would have a bit more sympathy towards a kid in a hail-Mary-pass experimental military program that’s also highly publicized as propaganda, but it’s all “war isn’t a game” and “your mech is too flashy” with him.

He and Reaper are truly made for each other because they’re both bitter old men who DISAPPOINT ME BY THROWING ALL NUANCE OUT THE WINDOW.

do your'll remeber DORITO GREMLIN D.VA I HAVE NUANCED THOUGHTS

i need to get them out at some point and yes i do mean actually nuanced outside of just "want to fuck her"

Since you've been doing a lot of Overwatch lately, I'm curious, who would you say are your favorite characters to play? And, if this would be different, also who are your favorite characters, personality wise?

Avatar

Pre-Transition I was a Mercy main, which I maintained until the end of 2017 when I fell off a bit.

NOW I’m a Moira main and I throw PEEBALL and WRONGBALL at people all day while using HEALPEE and SUCKHAND constantly.

Peeball and Wrongball, respectively, for context:

(And yes I made these images)

Fav characters though?

Zarya because she’s tall, buff, and kind.

Mei because I love her forever.

Junker Queen because we love a Himbo here.

Doomfist because his dialogue is legendary and his voice is AMAZING.

D.Va for max gremlin mode.

Symmetra for great lines, awesome skins, and the CARWASH.

Sombra for her attitude and gay gay gay haircut.

Sojourn for ROCKET KNEES and being actually the smartest person in the room most times.

Pharah because I was a Mercy main and I ship them to this day.

Ana because MILF.

Baptiste because he’s just fun to play, he’s well balanced for me, and I love how he is voiced.

Lucio because he’s best boy.

Kiriko because she’s actually a sniper and healer and I wish I could play her better and just SHES SO OP.

And Zenyatta because he floats by robot farting. Also they need a ZenNyaNya skin for him.

as many as you want for ovw just bc i am curious to your opinions :3c

*CLEARS THROAT VERY LOUDLY* WELL-

  1. the character everyone gets wrong
giving fandom the most bombastic fucking side-eye for the way they do a lot of the characters, but one i think people actually get wrong-wrong more often than they get him right is genji. i feel like most of fandom just, fundamentally misunderstands both who he used to be and who he currently is. i don't think they grasp his motivations or know how to get into his head.

6. which ship fans are the most annoying?

that group of hanzo/cassidy, ashe/cassidy, and sombra/cassidy fans who used to fight fucking constantly. like, i dunno if they're still going at it or if they've finally learned to block and move on, but the old slash-cassidy ship wars killed me, LOL.

7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?

i have nightmares about gremlin d.va to this day.

9. worst part of canon

why the fuck are all the Japanese characters spirit-wielding ninjas? ☠️ come on now.

10. worst part of fanon + 15. that one thing you [used to] see in fanart all the time

i have nightmares about dainty porcelain-skinned malewife hanzo to this day.

14. that one thing you see in fics all the time

i step up to the mic and announce, "himbo cole cassidy isn't real." the crowd starts to boo me off stage, but then we hear someone shout from the back, "it's true." everyone turns around and... oh my god, it's cole cassidy! but actually, i haven't read an overwatch fic in a whole minute, but i really hope fandom has grown out of making cole cassidy stupid. like, y'all know there is no fucking world where that man is stupid, right? cass might want you to think he's stupid, but he could strategize fucking circles around you, buddy.

18. it's absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on...

i'll start crying stomach acid if i still have to call bapweaver a rarepair one year from now.

Anyone else remember when Overwatch was popular there was that trend of depicting d.va as like… a weird gremlin thing that ended up having people infantilize the hell out of her?

How do you come up with your headcanons?

Honestly, I don't think any of my headcanons are that unique. I usually just read a bit of lore and try to think of how it applies to my version of the character, but it pretty much always lines up with other peoples' interpretations of the same character.

Probably my biggest difference is how a lot of the fandom sees D.Va as an absolute gremlin, but for me she's a much deeper character and I hate to see her characterised like that all the time. Don't get me wrong, she's a gamer, it can be funny, but her entire character revolving around doritos and mountain dew and being completely irritating just ain't it chief-
