Tumblr — Your Happy Place

image

May is Mental Health Month, and we want to celebrate the Happy Place you create here on Tumblr. In fact, 90% of you said you spend time on Tumblr better than on other platforms. That’s all thanks to 🥁YOU🥁!: the creators, rebloggers, and community members—everyone who is cultivating inspiration, entertainment, and making Tumblr feel like home each day.

This year, you will find a new weekly theme and writing prompts powered by our partners @dayone-app. We want to get you thinking, journaling, and improving your mental wellbeing.

Let’s kick it off with: ☮️PEACE☮️. With just a pen and paper, a keyboard, or a touchpad, our daily journaling prompts can help you find a place for the noise and buzz that fills your mind each day. It may not seem like much, but journaling has been proven to benefit mental wellbeing and boost your mood. After all, small changes can sometimes make a big difference.

So join the fun this Mental Health Month by utilizing our daily prompts! We would also love you to share your PEACE-themed mood boards using the tag #your happy place, so we can find and share your contributions. We hope you’ll find #your happy place with us—because when wellness is everything, all is well. Peace out ✌✌

Mental Wealth Month

...because mental health is wealth!

Mental Health Awareness Month is happening right now. We all know that mental health isn’t just about therapy. Sometimes it’s about checking out for a bit, moving your body, or chit-chat with like minds. One of the biggest barriers to proper mental healthcare is not having the funds for it. This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re teaming up with four partners to bring you a wealth of mental well-being services and support, as well as some good energy and deep vibes, here on @postitforward:

  • Explore online kindness and self-care with Trill
  • Learn about burnout with Shine
  • Find calm in our curated collection from Headspace
  • Experience grassroots growth and healing with Free Black Therapy

From next Monday, free services will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis, with discounts available for everyone in the Tumblr community. Stay tuned—each week we will be announcing something new from our partners.

It’s Mental Health Month, Tumblr!

Your mental health is important. Because of the coronavirus, people all around the world are experiencing high levels of mental and emotional stress. That’s why this year’s Mental Health Month initiative will focus on common aspects of isolation and loneliness: how to protect, maintain, and improve your mental health, how to manage your relationships inside and outside of your household, how to combat boredom, and how to deal with the grief you might be feeling.

All month long our friends at Ditch the Label (@ditchthelabel), a UK anti-bullying non-profit, will post resources to guide you through some of the emotional hardships you may be feeling right now. Here on @postitforward, we’ll be reblogging the best stuff we see from them, the top-notch stuff we see from the rest of the Tumblr community, and posting exclusive original art from some of our very own Tumblr @creatrs

Some of you may be concerned with your mental health for the first time in your life. For others, existing mental health issues may be exacerbated by current events—especially for those of you who may be quarantined with people whose values are at odds with your own. We see you, and we want to help.

If you don’t want to see these posts, that’s okay! Taking good care of your mind comes in many forms. We’ll tag all of our posts with “cw mental health month” as well as more specific tags when appropriate so you can use the tag filtering tool to keep them from your dashboard. And, hey, if you’re looking for a totally stress-free zone, go out and check out Cozy (@cozy)—it’s a blog we created to embrace a little escapism. Otherwise, be sure to give Ditch the Label (@ditchthelabel) a follow if you’re interested in the tools and guidance they will be providing starting May 4.

One last thing: If you or someone you know are struggling and don’t know where to turn to, here’s a list of free counseling services located all over the world

Do your best to take care of yourself, Tumblr. <3

Happy Mental Health Month, Tumblr!

Mental Health is important. With May being Mental Health Month, we want to take this opportunity to not only facilitate discussions on mental health but also to help those who aren’t familiar with mental health issues and coping strategies learn how to navigate these choppy waters.

For many people, discussing mental health issues was not a welcomed topic in their childhood home. Whether you come from families whose cultural values didn’t totally align with your own, or you felt unsafe discussing who you really are—we see you. No matter if you’re just starting on your mental health journey or have been tackling it for some time, you should be proud of your accomplishments thus far.

All month long Post It Forward will be sparking dialogue surrounding four big issues many people—especially young people—face today: eating disorders, anxiety, addiction, and suicide.

This will be tough. For some, it will be really tough. But it’s important that we let people know it is okay to be open and honest with your personal struggles.

If you don’t want to see these posts, don’t worry. We got you. We’ll be putting content warnings in all of our tags, and, you can easily filter them from your dashboard with our filtering tool. You have total control over what you see (and don’t see).

Now…let’s have the first discussion. Tumblr, if you could tell a younger version of yourself anything about mental health, what would you say? Use the hashtag #postitforward in your post so others can see your conversation easily!

Oh, hello.

Last week, on the first day of Mental Health Month, we asked you two questions:

What are you doing today to make life easier for yourself? And if you feel up to it—if you feel like you are in a good enough place yourself—What can you do to make life a little bit better for someone else?

How did you answer last week? Has your situation changed? Maybe you feel a little bit stronger this week. Maybe you feel like you need a little more help. Whatever the case is, consider letting your followers know what you’re doing. Make a post. Tell ‘em what you’re doing, or plan to do, for yourself or someone else. Inspire each other, Tumblr. We’ll be curating the best art and text posts in a special Explore page in two weeks.

Oh! One more thing: when you make the post on your Tumblr, tag it #MHM2018 so we know where to find it.

Love you, Tumblr. Hope you’re taking care of yourselves. Don’t forget, if you need a little help, we have a list of free and confidential counseling resources just for that.

Hey, Tumblr! 👋

Today marks the first day of Mental Health Month. Just like last year, we wanted to take up a bit of your dashboard real estate to talk about something important: you.

“Mental health” covers a broad spectrum of complex illnesses and emotions. It’s not always a cut-and-dry diagnosis, or something that goes away when you practice self-care. It can be difficult. It can feel like an uphill battle, especially after the year we’ve had. One of the ways we can move forward is by talking about it. We want to help facilitate that.

We want you to know that there are resources out there. There are people to talk to if you need someone to talk to, and there are organizations to look into if you want to help others.

  • NAMI (@namiorg and @oktotalk), the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the largest grassroots mental health organization in the U.S. Residents can dial 800-950-NAMI Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. — 6 p.m. ET.
  • The It Gets Better Project (@itgetsbetterproject) has one mission: uplift, empower and connect LGBTQ+ youth all around the globe. They have a list of over 1,000 resources for LGBTQ+ youth who are struggling with their sexuality, their families, their friends, or anything else. They want to remind you that you do not have go through anything alone.
  • The Born This Way Foundation (@bornthiswayfoundation) is committed to supporting the wellness of young people and empowering them to create a kinder and braver world. Their goal is to encourage kinder communities, improve mental health resources, and more positive environments both online and off.

Today we want to help you set up your own support system right on your own Tumblr. Some place where you can be honest and open and true. If you feel comfortable with it, we have two questions for you: what are you doing today to make life easier for yourself? And if you feel up to it—if you feet like you are in a good enough place yourself—what can you do to make life a little bit better for someone else?

Don’t forget, we have a whole directory of resources and prevention services that are open for people from all over the world right over here in our Help Center.

31 days of Mental Health Month have come and just about gone. Tumblr, thank you for sharing your stories. Thank you for reading the stories of your peers. Without you—all of you—Post it Forward would not be the beautiful, caring community it is today.

Though we reblogged a lot of the art that was created this month, we wanted to end on a particular high note and highlight just a few more pieces in a special post.

There was no shortage of inspo:

Mental Health Month may have been limited to, well, May, but it doesn’t mean our efforts stop in June. Post it Forward is always here as your hub for sharing stories and finding a support system with others who might be going through the same things you are.  So keep sharing if you can, keep reading, and keep up all of the amazing work we’ve seen so far.  And please always remember, there are resources out there if things ever get too hard. <3

Take care of yourself, Tumblr. You deserve it.

It’s week four of Mental Health Month, Tumblr! We hope you’ve enjoyed the post prompts and all of the wonderful works of love that they generated. The month may be ending, but that doesn’t mean that sharing your stories and spreading awareness for mental health has to end, too. That’s why this week is all about posting it for the future 👉

  • Post a photo or GIF of yourself with a positive message that you can look back on anytime you need. Toss a Mental Health Month sticker on it.
  • Make a list of things you can do to make life better for future you.
  • Write a chat post between the person you are now and the person you would like to become.
  • Write down one thing you like about yourself and schedule it to be published on your Tumblr one month from now.
  • The future starts…now. Share one thing you plan to cross off your to-do list today, and then do it!
  • Make a list of things you’re looking forward to in the future.
  • The Ultimate Positivity Post. Fill it up with everything that makes you happy. Reblog it whenever you’re feeling down.

Do one of them. Do all of them. Do none of them and instead make up your own methods of bringing awareness to the importance of mental health. Whatever you do, just tag it with #postitforward so others can see your post as part of the bigger message.

Keep looking out for each other, Tumblr.

And oh, hey, here’s the last of our upcoming Mental Health Month-themed Answer Times:
